This year’s legendary Niles High School alumni that will be honored is Michelle Asmus. Asmus is a graduate of Niles High School and attended Michigan State University and Bowling Green State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s in educational leadership from IUSB.
Ring Lardner students participate in ‘Reality Store’ to learn about budgeting
Balancing a budget can take some careful planning. Ring Lardner students in the seventh and eighth grade learned all about this skill Friday, during a budget simulation project called the “Reality Store.”
Similar to the board game “Life” students were randomly assigned a career, given a monthly salary and tasked with paying an assortment of bills from groceries, utilities and insurance to student loans and child care.
Education foundation to host murder mystery fundraiser
To raise money to replace the Niles High School stage, the Niles Education Foundation is asking residents to bust out their legwarmers and hairspray for an 1980s themed murder mystery from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Front Street Pizza Pub, 510 N. Front St.
Dubbed “Totally ‘80s, Totally Murder” the renowned Murder Mystery Company from Grand Rapids will perform a two-hour comedic Clue-style performance that seeks to provide “a rockin’ radical night of mystery.”
Audience members are encouraged to dress in ‘80s fashion and will have the opportunity to get involved.
Foundation to honor two legendary NHS graduates
Two Niles High School graduates will be honored by the Niles Education Foundation at their fourth annual “Legendary Evening” fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Orchard Hills Country Club.
The NEF Board of Trustees made its selection of the honorees with input from faculty and administrators, and suggestions from the public, based on a criteria of “making a difference” in the Niles community and around the world.
Niles Education Foundation’s Legendary Evening to honor graduates Kenneth Brook and Scott Maurer
The Niles Education Foundation is kicking off its 2016-17 fundraising campaign with its Third Annual Legendary Evening at Orchard Hills Country Club at 6 p.m. Aug. 20.
This year the foundation will honor two Exemplary Vikings: Staff Sergeant Kenneth A. Brook and Dr. Scott H. Maurer.
Niles Education Foundation starting new year
Supporters of the Niles Education Foundation are receiving invitations in the mail this week for the Third Annual “Legendary Evening” fundraiser on Aug. 20, 2016. The NEF event at Orchard Hills Country Club is honoring “Exemplary Vikings Making a Difference” in their communities.
Recipients being honored at this year’s August event were nominated by their former Niles Community Schools’ teachers and administrators and staff. The Board of Trustees of the NEF made the final selections for the “Exemplary Vikings” honors. Their names will be announced in mid-July.
