June 4, 2014: Announcement of 2015 Projects

The Niles Education Foundation will award more than $16,000 to projects geared toward enhancing and enriching the learning environment in the Niles Community Schools.

Last month, the foundation chose six projects to fund out of a record number of 21 applications.

“I can’t tell you how excited we were to get 21 projects,” said Jane Brandstatter, of the education foundation. “That’s exciting for the district, although it makes it difficult for us to choose because we have limited funding.”

June 3, 2014: Announcement of Vikings Legend Gala

The Niles Education Foundation will hold its inaugural summer fundraising event, “A Gala Tribute to Viking Legends,” at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at Orchard Hills Country Club.

It will be an evening of reminiscing good times with presentations made by former students, faculty and friends honoring former coach and athletic director Ed Weede and Peg Parrot, the former physical education teacher and long-time sponsor of the Niles Ushers Club.

Betty Perkins - Trustee with Niles Education Foundation

No hall pass is required by Betty Perkins as she returns to Niles Community Schools with a new title: Trustee with the Niles Education Foundation. Even retirement couldn’t keep Perkins away from Niles Community Schools. Betty has an extensive background in education. She began her teaching career at Osterlein Home for Emotionally Disturbed Children in Springfield, Ohio. She went on to teach in Ashland, Ohio, at the Dale-Roy School for the Mentally Retarded and at Osbourne Elementary School.

The Niles Education Foundation (NEF) has appointed its Executive Committee to establish funding and extra resources for students, teachers, and schools to help cover the gap that exists between what school budgets can cover, and what is needed to ensure the academic success of our students.

The Cyber Cafe at Niles High School will be able to make significant improvements to its infrastructure and technology thanks to a $20,000 donation by First Source Bank Monday.
